MOTIVATION
I had tremendous luck over this past summer (2009). Out of the 7 times we drove up to the city with friends, we got 3 parking tickets and 1 speeding ticket. This got me thinking – is it just me or have SF cops gotten stricter? Also, are there neighborhoods in the city where you have a higher probability of getting ticketed? To answer this quesion, I visualized SFPD data for “a day in the fabulous city of San Francisco”. Particularly, I was interested in finding out car-related reports – parking, towing, stop lights, muni problems, etc.
Built in Tableau.

EARLY PROTOTYPES
- problems with geolocating the data
- each crime was mapped to a different size – wrong mapping
- too many crimes!
- each crime, augmented by size (for frequency) – still too much info
- filtered to parking-related crimes – color mapping needs improvement
- final visualization
FINAL VISUALIZATION
As part of an assignment for Data Visualization
